1.0 - Introduction
Brew Tycoon is an interactive, turn based game. Real players compete against each other to have the Brewery with the most Capital Assets. Players can play 24 hours a day, with most game actions requiring the use of "Moves" that are acrued once every 15 minutes.
Capital Assets are increased by earning money and investing, in a variety of ways. Each Brewery receives an income that is paid hourly. This hourly income can be increased by Rating Beers, and your results are affected by how much Training you have. Money is also earned by selling your Beer in the Store, plus revenue generated by Advertising. Each Brewery can create 5 different Beers to advertise and sell to other players.
To make things more interesting, players can steal from or attack other Breweries, as long as their Capital Assets are in a similar range. Various Battle Goons may be purchased, each with different strengths and weaknesses, to Attack others and protect your own Brewery.
The game is played for a duration of 60 days, called a Campaign. At the end of a Campaign, at a random time, game play is stopped and winners are announced. The start of the next Campaign will then be announced and all player statistics will start over again. Each Player begins with $200 and 100 Moves
1.1 - General Rules
Brew Tycoon accounts are linked to BeerPal.com member accounts. In order to participate in Brew Tycoon, you must first create a FREE account at BeerPal.com. You will then log in to Brew Tycoon using your BeerPal username and password.
Each person may only operate one Brewery. Having more than one account gives an unfair advantage and will not be tolerated! Any player found to have more than one account will be banned from the game indefinitely. All activity in the game is logged, including IP addresses and physical machine identity. Two different individuals accessing the game from the same computer is highly discouraged and may lead to a ban. Using anonymous web proxies or other methods for the purpose of hiding your identity are not allowed.
No account sharing is allowed. Do not share your passwords with anyone. Letting someone else play for you while you are on vacation or asleep is strictly prohibited! Anyone involved in account sharing will have their accounts banned from the game indefinitely.
Using automated scripts or "bots" to access or play the game is not allowed. Players found doing this will have their account banned indefinitely.
Players are expected to be curteous and considerate to others. Threatening or harrassing other players may lead to a temporary or permanent ban from the game.
Any game errors or bugs that are found should be reported immediately. Using bugs or exploiting game operation to give an unfair advantage will result in a permanent ban.
This game and its services may not be used for advertising.
Sending irrelevant messages, or messages that have no discussion qualities, are considered spam and are not allowed.
Giving inside information to other players is considered cheating and will result in a ban of all involved players. This especially includes telling other players the ratings of beer. Basically, the exchange of any game data that may possibly help another player is prohibited.
Forming "alliances" with other players is prohibited. Ganging up on other players is not allowed, which includes telling others to attack a certain player. Anyone found to be cooperating with other players may be banned.
Using Brewery or Beer names similar to others for the purpose of confusion or misleading others is not allowed.
2.0 - Game Play
2.1 - Moves
Since Brew Tycoon is a turn based game, "Moves" are required for almost everything you do. No matter how active a player is in the game, they are limited by a fixed rate of Moves. Each player receives one additional Move every 15 minutes. The number of Moves you currently have is displayed in the Status section. It is important to note that you will not receive additional Moves if you already have 500 of them. Therefore, leaving the game for long periods at a time will cause you to miss out on Moves.
Some actions may require more than one Move. If you do not have enough Moves, you will not be able to continue with that action.
2.2 - BAC
Many of the actions you take in BT require you do drink beer. Just like real life, consuming beer dulls your senses with an increase in your blood alcohol content, or BAC. On the right hand side of the game screen, in the status section, is your BAC. At a fresh start, you will have no alcohol in your blood stream and your BAC will show 0.000%. Once you perform an action that requires you to drink, your BAC will increase by an amount specific to that action. As the BAC increases, your ability to do certain things may decrease. It's also important to know that once your BAC reaches a certain level, you'll no longer be able to rate another beer. After all, it's not a good idea to rate beer when your senses are not so accurate!
Trying to drink too much alcohol not only worsens your ability to play the game, but may also cause you to completely black out! When a black out occurs, you will be unable to play at all for 24 hours. The amount of time left before you can play again will be displayed on the home page, which is the only page you'll be able to view during this time.
Of course, the only thing that reduces BAC is time. Each players BAC reduces by 0.010% per half hour. A negative BAC is not possible.
2.3 - Income
In order to brew beer you need money. All brewers receive an income in the form of hourly wages, paid by the mysterious Beer master. Your hourly income rate is displayed in the Status section of the screen. At the start of the game everyone's income is $5.85 per hour. During the game, you have the ability to increase your income by performing various actions, such as rating beer. Your income will also increase by 11 cents an hour every day. The Beer Master will increase everyone's rate at 1:00 AM.
2.4 - Goons
Goons are workers that you hire to work for your Brewery. At the start of every Campaign you will have 4 Goons. Additional Goons may be hired by using the link in the Brewery page. Each additional Goon costs you $10 and you may get up to 10 per Move.
One important use for a Goon is for operating your Brewery. For every 48 bottle batch of Beer you brew, you will need 2 Goons.
Goons are also required to carry out tasks, such as stealing money or beer from other Brewers. They can also be sent on a bloody rampage to destroy the brewing Tanks of another Brewery. This is very helpful for keeping your enemies from growing their Net Worth!
2.5 - Net Worth
The main goal of the game is to have the highest Net Worth of all the Breweries. Your Net Worth is the actual dollar value of your Brewery, and is calculated from the summation of all your assetts, cash, and training. Almost anything you buy has some value, but the value is almost always less than what you originally paid. Some assetts, such as beer, will even change with time, depending on current market conditions.
Net Worths for all Breweries are calculated every night, which is why they're usually listed as Estimated Net Worths. However, you can always have your own Net Worth recalculated at any time by using the link on the home page. The value is also adjusted automatically after certain attacks.
3.0 - Brewery
Each player must first make a name for their Brewery. The name may be a maximum of 50 characters and does not have to be related to your BeerPal username. Once made, it cannot be changed for the rest of the current Campaign.
Before you can begin brewing beer, you must also make up a beer name prefix. This is a short name that should be related to your Brewery name that will prefix each beer you create. This is so that all of your beers start the same way for easy recognition. For example, if your Brewery is named "Tycoon Brewing Company" you would probably enter a prefix of "Tycoon". All of your beers would then be recognizable, such as "Tycoon Terminator" or "Tycoon Pale Ale".
3.1 - Brewing
Each players gets to brew 5 different Beers. The first step to brewing beer is naming it. The name of of a player's beer will begin with the prefix created when the Brewery was created. The maximum length of a Beer name, including the prefix, is 50 characters. Tip: If you do not want a space in the Beer name between the prefix and the name you enter, then place a "-" in front of the name and the space will be left out. For example, if your prefix was "Tycoon" and you wanted a Beer named "Tycoon's Best", then you would enter "-'s Best" for the name. Otherwise, entering "'s Best" would appear as "Tycoon 's Best"
Once the Beer is named, you must select a style from the list of available styles. You may not make more than one of the same style.
Next, you must invent a recipe for your new Beer. This is were you get to be creative, but more importantly, decide on how much money you want to invest to brew it. You will be select what types, and how much, of malt and hops you'd like to use. Each ingredient is unique, both in flavor and price. The mix of ingredients you use will determine the actual cost of your beer. You can see the final cost per bottle before finalizing your beer. Once you have finalized the Beer, you will not be able to change the recipe for the rest of the Campaign. Take your time in coming up with a strategy for how you'd like to price your Beer, since the initial retail price and your profits will be affected by it. Also, you will need to have the money for raw material costs in order to brew every batch of this Beer in the future.
3.2 - Tanks
The intial capacity of your brewing facility is 2 Tanks, which is enough to produce 96 bottles of beer, since each Tank produces 48 bottles each. You can buy additional Tanks for your brewery for $100 each and 1 Move.
For every batch of beer in production, you will need 2 Goons. If you lose any of your Goons, any batches they were brewing will still continue, but you won't be able to brew additional batches unless you have enough Goons to watch them all.
4.0 - Beer Store
The Beer Store is where you go to buy and sell bottles of Beer. All Beers that are in stock are listed in the Beer Store, along with the current market price, the number available for purchase, and the number you own.
4.1 - Buying Beer
You can purchase up to 6 Beers with a single Move, and you cannot purchase more than 24 bottles of the same Beer.
4.2 - Selling Beer
You may sell any or all of your Beer to the Beer Store at any time, without using any Moves. To sell a Beer, use the "Sell Beer" link located in your Fridge.
5.0 - Fridge
Your Fridge is where all the Beer bottles you own are kept. The Fridge also shows you how much you paid, on average, for each Beer, along with how many bottles of each Beer you have. It also tells you what Beers you have rated. If you have not rated a Beer, it will show a link to take you directly to the Beer rating page.
5.1 - Fridge Types
There are several types of Fridges that you may upgrade to throughout the game. Each upgrade allows you to hold more beer, and also increases your protection from enemies who attempt to Raid your Fridge. To start, each player's Fridge holds only 24 Beers. There are a total of 5 different Fridge types.
6.0 - Advertising
Advertising campaigns can be set up for each Beer that you brew. Advertising affects the default placement of your Beer in the Beer Store, and also provides you with revenue.
The Advertising index page display a list of all of your Beers with the daily ammount you are spending on Ads for that beer, and the date the Ad will end. You can create or modify the Ad for any Beer by clicking on the Beer
6.1 - Creating
The first step to creating an Ad is choosing how many days to run it. You can select up to a maximum of 14 days, with the first day beginning at midnight. Next, you must enter how much money you'd like to spend per day. This can be any ammount of at least a dollar. Finally, enter the text that you'd like displayed with your Ad. The next page after clicking the "Continue" button will confirm your Ad and give you the total cost for running the Ad for the full duration. If you accept, you will be charged he full ammount immediately. Ads cannot be stopped or refunded once they are started.
6.2 - Modifying
Once an Ad for a Beer has been created, the same link can be used to modify it. You may increase the duration (up to a maximum of 14 days), increase the daily fee, or change the Ad text. Choosing to increase the fee will charge you for all the remaining days, including the current day, since the change goes into effect immediately.
6.3 - Ad Revenue
Ad revenue is an easy way to make money, and is directly related to the ammount of money you spend on your Advertising and the number of Tanks in your Brewery. The more money you spend, the more Beers you are likely to sell. Each morning at 6 AM you'll receive an update with the number of Beers sold for each one that you have an Ad for. See this report by using the "Ad Revenue" link at the top of the Advertising Campaign pages. Since these purchased bottles are bought directly from your Brewery, there is a flat profit margin per bottle that you'll receive: 25 cents per bottle. And obviously, if you don't have many Tanks, you won't be able to meet the demand. Competition by other Breweries will affect your results as well.
7.0 - Bank
The Bank is a place to keep your money and no one but you is able to touch it. You account is insured to $100,000, which is all you're allowed to keep inside.
7.1 - Transactions
You may make cash deposits in any amount, at any time. The only restriction is that you may not keep more than $100,000 in the Bank. Withdrawals made be made in any amount, up to the value of your account, but you may only make one withdrawal per day. Transactions are instant and require no Moves.
7.2 - Interest
All Bank accounts earn interest at a daily rate, which is applied daily at midnight for the exact amount in your account at that time. The daily percentage rate is displayed on the Bank index page, and may vary from day to day.
8.0 - Attacking
Attacking other Breweries is neccessary for your survival. All attacks are made by your Goons, use at least one Move, and force you to drink so that you can deal with the stress, which means your B.A.C. goes up. Since Goons are very honorable people, they will refuse to attack a Brewery that is too small. They are also fairly intelligent, and know when a Brewery is too large to go after. You will only be able to carry out attacks on Breweries that fall within your Net Worth range, which is proportional to your current Net Worth.
To Attack a Brewery, you must go to that Brewery's information page and use the "Attack" link at the top. If they are too large or too small, you will be notified immediately they are out of your range.
Some Attacks are affected by your B.A.C. Obviously, the more sober you are, the more likely you are to succeed. Conversely, if the defender is drunk, it's easier for you to Attack
8.1 - Steal Money
Stealing money is often a good way to increase your funds and hurt your enemy at the same time. When this action is chosen, you must then select how many Goons you would like to send. Up to 5 Goons may be sent in one attempt. The more Goons you send, the more money you are capable of stealing. However, it also increases your risk of being caught. If caught, you will lose each Goon that you sent, won't receive any money, and will have used up a Move and increased your B.A.C. for nothing.
8.2 - Raid Fridge
Raiding a Fridge allows you to steal another players Beer. Random bottles will be taken out of their Fridge and added to your own. A failure causes you to lose your Goons.
8.3 - Destroy Tanks
Destroying Tanks is best way to cripple other players. When you choose this type of Attack, it will send all of your Goons to the enemy Brewery with the goal of destroying as many Tanks as possible. The more Goons you have, the more damage you will inflict. However, the enemy's Goons will fight back and casualties on both sides are likely.
8.4 - Intrusions
A dedicated link in the Menu allows you to see all enemy Attacks, or Intrusions.....
